Why invest in me as a teacher?
Back in my former life in Australia, I was a full time teacher and part time photographer. I loved my teaching career and always tried to intertwine my creativity and photography into my classes, even with the teeny weeny ones.
Since moving to Canada I have greatly missed teaching on a day to day basis and it’s only been through little educational posts on Mocking Bird that I’ve been able to get that fix. While photography is like a 3rd eye, something that is a part of me no matter where I go, teaching is the only other thing I know I can call my own. Despite me not teaching on a daily basis here in Vancouver, I know that it will be in my life in some shape or form forever.
Combining both my teaching experience and my knowledge and passion for photography seemed like such a natural step for me to take. I started to think about it with every morning shower and every night before I drifted off to sleep. I knew that my heart and soul were telling me it was something I had to do.
I have been teaching for over 11 years and know the inner workings of a classroom-learning environment inside and out. Along with teaching kids of all ages, I have also instructed both teachers and parents in learning workshops.
My teaching philosophy is that all students, no matter their age or skills, should be encouraged to have strength in themselves and their abilities.
My classroom, whether in person or online, is a place where happiness grows; courage is fostered and challenges are met. I want all my students to feel safe, secure and to have the knowledge that taking risks are encouraged and given applause.
Those of you that know me from my blog, should know that you can trust in me and my ability to take time for you. I hope through knowing me through my blog, you will take the leap and trust me so that we can do this together.
I will be passionate and encouraging, helpful and patient. I will be available to you with any problems that you have and encourage you to ask me for assistance. I am doing this the only way I know how with all the experience I have behind me.
But most importantly, I believe in you.
You can see more of my photography work here and here and read my blog Mocking Bird here.
