I believe that to become an artistic, creative photographer, you need not only skills, but you must also possess passion, story telling ability and soul. Those 2 things are what I like to call your Photographer Heart and your Photographer Brain.

Each week in the course, we will explore both your Photographer Heart and your Photographer Brain. The Photographer Heart section will be our main focus and will be where we learn about shooting with passion and creativity. The Photographer Brain component will focus on skills tips and refreshers to keep you technically in check.

What will you learn?

I will teach you what I know about shooting with purpose, shooting with passion and about working towards a style that makes my photos ‘me’. I will tell you my story telling secrets, how I find inspiration and how I deal with the emotional side of being an artist.

Each week I will share my straight forward tips on technical aspects like ISO, aperture, and lighting. I will share how I use the different technical aspects of photography in my own creative work.

Who should take the course?

This course is aimed at beginning and intermediate photographers who want to shoot with greater intent and focus and who are looking for ways to put more creativity into their photography.

You may have been given a new camera for Christmas, have been shooting for a while but feel your photographs are lacking something but you’re not sure what. This course will teach you about starting on your journey to develop your own style and believing in your originality and voice.

The course is not a strictly technical course (there will be some elements of the technical as refreshers) but more about how you can start to create your own signature style. If you like what I do with my photography, need to take that next step with your own photography, and know that you and I would be a good fit, then this course is probably for you.

Who Am I?

I am a photographer, teacher and writer. I shoot mostly film and am madly in love with Polaroid photography. I have been teaching for over 11 years and am awaiting the release of my first book, Instant Love: How to Make Magic and Memories with Polaroids (with co authors Jen Altman and Susannah Conway) published by Chronicle Books. We currently have a companion set of note cards called Pretty Polaroid Notes. I blog at my personal and photography blog, Mocking Bird.

Course dates: The next course is running from Monday 4 June, 2012 till Friday 13 July, 2012. The course runs from Mondays to Fridays.
