The Next Step

If you follow me, Jen or Susannah on twitter*, I’m sure you’ve already heard our recent excitement. Yesterday we delivered our final manuscript and artwork to the publisher and I cannot not tell you how good it feels. It has been a long and exciting process full of emotion, late nights and hundreds of emails back and forth across the land and sea. Primarily for the last six months, it’s been all I’ve really thought about and I think I will forever be seeing polaroid frames in my eyes.

Our Polaroid book has been a labour of absolute love and we still have a way to go together on this journey, but we are all so happy to be at this point. I for one was wondering if it would ever come. We are so excited to be able to share all our words and Polaroids with you, to share our love of this magical art form and to hopefully persuade more to join the ranks in the Polaroid army.

Along with the book, we have some exciting things up our sleeves and we are realising now that this journey is only just beginning. Will you join us?

Polaroid Day: Black Edition

Some time ago, a publisher in Korea contacted me about including some of my Polaroids in a book called Polaroid Day. The book has been released in Korea and I was lucky enough to receive an artist copy from the publishers. I was so thrilled to see my Polaroids in the book, especially as one of them was placed opposite Deborah Rodrigo’s gorgeous coffee shot. She and I used to live very close to one another back in Sydney, so it was kind of funny that out of 42 photographers, they placed our photos next to each other. And her Polaroid is gorgeous! That’s my teacup shot up the top also.

I wanted to share a few other shots from the book as it’s filled with some beautiful photography by some amazing photographers including Debbie Martin, Patrick Ng, Claire Dollan, Brecht Cuppens, Marika Ryu and Irina Mashurova.

Communicating with Korea was a little tricky and I’m not sure if the book is going to be available in Australia, Europe or North America. However it looks like you can purchase from the publisher website here.

Polaroid Kind Of Day

Hello Mocking Bird readers….this Polaroid girl is out in full force today with a little more PX 600 film coming at you. I love how the tones of this film are so varied with different light. The first ghostly shot was taken outdoors on a very cold day under cloud cover but with sun peeking through, while the second was taken indoors on a cloudy day with window light.

Even with the harsh cold elements, the film was still able to produce the top image. I use my protective cardboard device ( attached to my camera oh so elegantly with sticky tape) to shield the film when it ejects from the camera. All my shots have turned out since using it, so I’ll be sticking with it for now. This roll was taken on my SLR680 which is designed for 600 films, but I might try the next one in my SX70 with an ND filter.

I am absolutely loving experimenting with these new films. Anyone who has been on the fence about buying a Polaroid camera because of the film situation, should listen to me now and go out and buy one. This film will give you the chance to test out your Polaroid skills and allow you to feel like you’re creating something magical again.

Thank you to Anne and The Impossible Project for sending some film my way. It is very much appreciated!

Fall Roid Week 2010

Have you been enjoying Roid Week? There have been some amazing Polaroids in the pool this week and I have found myself some new contacts to follow which is always a bonus of Roid Week. My polas were a mixed bag, using Polaroid 600 film and Polaroid Artistic TZ film. There are a few more over at Flickr and I may even throw up another one before the day is done.

I’d love to see some of your Polaroids and instant pictures from the week. Leave a link to a favourite Polaroid from your stream in the comments and I will share some of them here next week!

Happy Halloween

Have a great Halloween, kids!

I’m gearing up for Roid Week next week ( Mon 1st to Fri 5th ) and getting the lollies ready for the building kids who may pop by on Sunday. No pumpkin carving for me this year, a little more relaxed but hopefully still full of colour and a little spookiness.

If you aren’t taking part in Roid Week this time around, still check out the flickr pool as there are bound to be some wonderful, Polaroid delights.

I hope you have a great weekend!

All The Little Details

And as the sun decides to come out, my little photo shoot ends. I must get better at predicting this Vancouver weather.

I’m not ready to share my place with you yet, but I thought I’d share some of the little details I have sprinkled around.

The first shot may well be one of my favourite things ever. It’s a turquoise soap dish that I found at Anthropologie ( have I caught on that I am kind of obsessed yet?) and I of course had it in the bathroom looking gorgeous. However I’m currently using it as a jewellery holder on my bedside. I love waking up and looking at its prettiness.

I am presently obsessed with wooden and wire things on white. I love the clean lines against the texture of the wood. A wire basket to hold papers on my desk with my Lettergirl stamp which I use on all my print store shipments, plus an ink fountain pen from Italy given to me by The Canadian.

The last is part of Sean’s McSweeney’s collection. He is quite the bookworm to say the least and this is the first time I’ve really seen all his books together in one place. They take up a whole wall in our study. I love that I now have an inbuilt library and won’t need to be buying any novels for a while!

** White and wooden kitchen gorgeousness

** Gorgeous photography from Olga Bennett

** The Autumn issue of Small Magazine is out now

** Loving this gorgeous blog Eat Drink Chic

A Little Art Hunt

A little bacon and eggs courtesy of The Canadian.

How excited am I to finally be using our housey things that have been sitting in boxes for months? SO excited. This gorgeous dish is part of my new dinner set which I’ve had since before Christmas. I just adore the lines and ripples in the design. It reminds me of the ocean, which of course reminds me of home. One of my aims is to have my Australian home reflected here in our new abode.

In the quest for making our house a home, I have been searching endlessly for beautiful art pieces to fill up our place. At present, our walls are quite bare and it’s rather depressing. With perfect timing, I’ve just started watching Man Shops Globe and have fallen in love with the quest for scouring the globe for art. Of course, scouring the globe on my budget means travel by internets, not by plane, but it’s almost as good, right?

Did you see the Aussie episode? I’ve fallen in love with Anna Wili Highfield‘s Paper Sculptures. Her mystical birds are absolutely breath taking and I can just imagine how they would instantly transform a room into something magical…like living in your own woodland forest.

I’m once again on the hunt and have discovered these little pieces along the way:

Aussie Hearts a Mess by Sweet William

Droplets by Sarajo Frieden

Constellation by Christine Tillman

Pods by Yellena

All gorgeous prints but I’d also love something fabulous to invest in, something to have to take into our first home. Do you have any investment pieces in your home that you adore? I’ve got the art bug!
