Today I’m super excited to share something different with you. Let me introduce Australian artist Robyn Edwards, who also happens to be one of my dearest friends. Robyn is a visual artist whose work is inspired by nature’s colours and reflections. Rob is not only super talented but she’s just one of those people who lights up a room and can make you laugh right when you need it.

Recently Robyn has been sharing some of her art work online and I’ve been enjoying her recent pieces influenced by the Australian sea and nature that she loves so. As you know, I love sharing my photography work online and after seeing one of my recent Canadian beach shots, Rob decided to take my photo and create her own interpretation and I LOVE IT!

Robyn worked with acrylics to create this beautiful piece, which she says was inspired by the colours of my Vancouver beach image. She told me that it motivated her from the moment she saw it because it looked so serene and peaceful.

Isn’t it beautiful? What do you think? I am in awe of her talent and so honoured that she used my photograph as inspiration.

I do not paint, I do not sew, I do not glue and stick, I do not write piano concertos, I do not scrapbook…

Because these things are seen more as “art” than photography, for many years I didn’t believe that I was fit to call myself an artist. It’s amazing how powerful those words can be to bring strength to this thing that I do. This thing that I do that gives me the energy to be creative every day. Sure I can go out and do a portrait session, shoot a wedding or be commissioned to shoot some travel shots but that doesn’t make me an artist.

What makes me an artist is the need to create, to make something that’s never been made before, to see something that isn’t seen by everyone, to find that picture that allows me to connect all the squiggly lines in my mind and have them dance out and onto the photograph.

Being an artist is being out in the world and finding that place that makes you most happy, that gives you a chance to be open and raw and vulnerable and free. Being an artist is about listening to yourself, not ignoring your ‘you’ time, but taking control of it and being the person you want to be.

I am not afraid to call myself an artist anymore.

Do you dare to call yourself artist? Please start…it will make you feel good. I promise.

Whether it be a little boutique filled with glorious gifts hiding in a corner of an area you know well or a laneway perfect for photographs that you never knew existed before? My latest find is a gorgeous designer and artist Tiel Seivl-Keevers. I’m sure she’s probably done the rounds to many design websites, but she is new to me and she is an Aussie.

From soft Matryoshka dolls to Babushka art pieces, her work is just gorgeous. Tiel does stationery and canvas prints plus writes the blog, Tsk Tsk here. I bought the print shown above and can’t wait for it to arrive. Check out more of her gorgeous work below.
