Wandering Neighbourhoods: Montmartre

Are you sick of Paris yet?

Montmartre: the place I’ve always been told was me- by friends and stories, songs and memories.

Bread makers, buskers, painters, windows full of pastries and a light worth chasing.

All images were shot on Kodak Portra 400 film.

It is a fabulous place. It’s an artist’s mecca.

I don’t know if I could ever get sick of looking at Paris! Beautiful photos :)

Beautiful shots! Did it live up to your expectations?

    • Amanda

It did, Kelly. I loved it but it was unfortunately kinda touristy, especially near the Sacre Coeur but I guess that has to be expected anywhere in Paris.
I think that part of it struck me mostly in Place du Tertre where it’s jam packed with artists and their paintings. It felt like they were just trying to cash in on the “artist haven” thing rather than actually doing it for the love…you know?
I remember seeing artists in Florence and feeling something different from them.

Great photos! I love Paris and seeing other people’s photos of the city. So beautiful.

It is a pretty touristy area, but I suppose that’s to be expected as it has been a bit Disney-fied over the years. I recommend the Belleville area of the city for a more real, arty vibe!

Never sick of Paris! Though I never blogged all my photos as I was worried people would think that too lol.

We stayed about 15 minute walk from Montemartre and that felt more real and less touristy, so I know what you mean about that – we didn’t even stay at the Sacre Couer that long, we just kept walking and exploring.

Your montmartre shots made me remember walking through there with friends between Christmas & New Years in 2005 and how it started to snow on us!

  • Imene

Never! I lived in Montmartre for a long time. I loved it, it has the feeling of living in a small village away from the busyness of Paris.
The only reason we moved to the 15th was that the commute was too long for my husband.
I know live in Suburgatory in NJ and 8 years later I still miss the uniqueness of Paris and European cities.
I love your blog, such a beautiful place
