Mocking Bird Turns Two

Thank you for the wonderful conversations, the lovely emails, and all the amazing comments over the past year. It fills my heart each time I discover a special message from a Mocking Bird reader.

Thank you to all the quiet readers – I appreciate you taking the time to view my little blog. Please say hi in the comments if you haven’t before.

As it is Mocking Bird’s birthday, I thought I’d share some silly things about me you don’t know just for fun!

5 TV Shows I Watch:

  1. Fringe – if you follow me on twitter or Instagram you already know this. I tweet about it often. Holy finale, Walter Bishop!
  2. Community – A show that certainly gets better with age, last week’s episode was the best episode of any comedy this year. Hello, Josh Holloway Cameo!
  3. Parks and Recreation – Ron Swanson I love you.
  4. The Amazing Race – Yes, after all those seasons, I’m still watching. I love the travel aspect and totally crush on the Phil eyebrow raise.
  5. Mad Men – Don Draper. Need I say more?

5 Beauty Products I love:

  1. Nars blush in ‘orgasm’. I wear it every day to give me a healthy glow.
  2. Laura Mercier Secret Concealer – It covers up my dark circles like no other concealer can. I’ve tried them all!
  3. Cetaphil skin cleanser – I’ve also tried many cleansers over the years and it keeps my face clean and fresh. I use it to remove my make up.
  4. Mac eye shadow in ‘rice paper’ – I sweep it over my lid before other shades and it really opens up my eyes.
  5. La Mer cleansing lotion – This is the best stuff I’ve ever used. It leaves my face super soft. Super expensive though and I’m almost out.

5 Musicians/bands I love:

  1. Sigur Ros
  2. Arcade Fire
  3. Radiohead
  4. U2
  5. Bjork

and not in that order. I’ve seen U2 12 times, Radiohead 4 times, Sigur Ros 4 times, Arcade Fire 3 times and Bjork once.

5 Places I’ve Visited:

  1. Ireland – I won a U2 competition back in 1998 and won a trip to Dublin to stay in U2′s hotel, The Clarence. I also won The Edge’s guitar. It’s back in Sydney. I loved Ireland so much that I went back again in 2001.
  2. Italy- A love affair I’ve had for 10 years. I’ve been longing to return ever since. A photographer’s paradise.
  3. Boston – I adore that town.
  4. London – Every time I’ve been in London, it’s only been for a few days at a time. I need to spend some real time there.
  5. Every state in Australia except for Tasmania (and the Northern Territory).

This was kind of fun. Maybe I’ll do some more in the future. Happy Birthday, MB community!

  1. happy blog birthday! so fun to learn some more about you :) i’ll have to try that nars blush in “orgasm” as i’ve noticed it keeps popping up all over the blogosphere.

oh and super jealous that you’ve been to ireland and italy! actually, super jealous that you’ve been anywhere outside the united states because i have yet to leave this country :P but someday i will!

  2. Happy Birthday Amanda! I hope you are eating tons of cake to celebrate! I just wanted to say that I discovered your blog fairly recently and I´ve been a devoted reader ever since! I find your photography and blog really inspiring especially I am a newbie in both blogging and photography! It is content like yours that keeps me hooked and gives me hope for my little growing blog….

Keep up the amazing work and I am looking forward to your courses online!

  3. I love your list, especially the music. And I also secretly adore patented Phil eyebrow raise : )

Just discovered your blog and look forward to following it. Have a great day!

  4. Happy Birthday blog! I love it so much, please keep on going because it keeps ME going! Haha it’s great to learn a little more about the person behind the lens.

  5. You have impeccable taste in music (as one says who likes the same things) I’m beyond beyond…would it be jealous? LoL…that you’ve seen them all so many times. I can only imagine! And Italy (very deep sigh)…I need to visit Australia…been on my list since forever…..happy 2nd!

  6. Happy Birthday! :) to one of my favorite blogs

You have traveled so much! I am so jealous ;)
I hope to one day be able to travel so much more than I have.

    Keep up the fabulous work!

    • Thanks Angie! yes, Im lucky that I have done a fair bit of travelling. And all from Australia too. Once you get the bug, you cant stop. Im constantly thinking about travelling. It’s terrible!

  7. You’ve seen a band TWELVE times?! Holy smokes! I can barely even think of any band I’d be interested in seeing more than once! That’s so awesome.

And thank you for including the list about beauty products – I have dark circles under my eyes and no amount of oversleeping can get rid of ‘em. Just the way I am I guess. I’m gonna hunt down that concealer, though!

    • Yes, a little obsessed, Kim. I saw them once on one tour, 3 times the next tour, and then did a tour around Australia seeing them for the tour before last. I had lots of fun hanging out with the same fans. Following a band on tour takes dedication and you kind of have to be a bit insane too lol
Yeah, my dark circles are really bad – it’s genetic. The Laura Mercier concealer is the only one that actually makes me feel normal. I never leave the house without it.

  8. Happy blog birthday! Good luck for the next years :) I’d never blog-commented before but I found yours when i googled ‘Polaroid….old film…..help’ or something similar. I clapped my hands with joy and set off for adventures with my Polaroid, still working 22 years after I got it from Santa. Thank you for some lovely inspirational posts and photos :)

  9. happy blog birthday amanda! i discovered mocking bird when you just had moved to canada – i think it was through pia’s blog – and i’ve been following you ever since =) this is a blog that is good for the eyes, the brain and the heart, and i’m looking forward to the next year!
    big hugs ,t

  10. Wow! The Edge’s guitar? Unbelievable. I remember trying to get tickets for the U2 tour in 2000 or 2001. The website just crashed the minute they were released – I failed. But then I did get to see them, at Twickenham Stadium in 2005 and they were fabulous.
Next time you’re back down under, you should try to visit Tasmania. It’s a really beautiful place. But don’t go in September – I have never been so cold, anywhere, as Tasmania in September. They don’t build their houses to withstand the chilly winters that they get down there.
