My ole Yashica can be pretty messed up at times. The light meter in this camera is not the best and sometimes gives me wonky exposures and colours but I often enjoy the crazy that comes because of it.

I don’t know what made me post a love letter to Japan this week. My thoughts and prayers are with all our friends in Japan.

You and I are meant to be. I think about you so very often and dream of getting lost in your quiet, sakura filled lanes. I want to tie ribbons with friends, to learn the art of Japanese tea drinking, and to walk the streets of some of my most treasured stories. I fall deeper into love with your rituals and art and dream about spending time with you often. I can’t help but fall head over heels every time I see your children smile and pose for the camera. They are the sweetest on earth. Your camera stores and I are going to hold hands and dance a happy dance together. I know we were meant for each other! I hope to see you sometime soon.
Love Amanda xx
p.s. The beautiful photographs were taken by my other love, Sean. How insanely good is the picture of Kyoto Station? He allowed me to share them with you. Aren’t they beautiful?

Lately I’ve been a little lost- lost in a sea of my own thoughts, all crashing into each other and mixing me up. You know that cloud of dust that Pig-Pen from Peanuts has that follows him wherever he goes? I feel like I’ve been walking around with that cloud above my head for months. But my cloud isn’t dust, it’s thousands of scribbled thoughts all jumbled and intertwined, waiting for the organised part of my brain to unravel them and neatly place them where they need to go. The organised sector of my brain must be on holidays because the cloud is still there and at times I feel like it’s great because I go to bed thinking, “Yay, today was awesome, I came up with all these ideas and thoughts of creative magic”. But then the next morning, they are all still up there, tangled and messy and floating.
To keep myself on track, I’ve started journaling in 2 different books. One is a pure ideas book where I write whatever I’m feeling, thinking, seeing. I stick photographs and little pieces of ephemera from my day in the journal and then come back to it when I’m feeling the Pig-Pen Idea Cloud appear. I get the ideas out of the cloud and onto paper. It seems to be working so far.
The other is a more organised journal that lays out my week ahead for projects, work and to do lists. It also has a section for blog posts and I section I call “Me”. Under the “Me” heading are bullet points that I have to tick off at the end of each week. It’s sad that I have to remind myself to go to bed by a certain time, to exercise, drink water and to eat a certain way but when life is so complicated, it’s simple things like looking after yourself that get forgotten.
Do you keep journals to keep yourself on track? How do you deal with your Pig-Pen cloud?

Have you seen the pages and pages of endless beauty yet? Last week, my gorgeous and talented friend Pia Jane Bijkerk revealed her new professional website and oh my goodness, it is packed to the rafters with glorious photographs. One thing I adore about Pia is the way in which she creates a world that you can’t help but want to be a part of. She does this through beautiful photography, amazing style and heart felt writing. If you are needing to escape the daily grind for a little bit, grab a cuppa, curl up on the couch and take a wander through her world. You will not be disappointed.
Once you’re done looking at all the beautiful photographs, make sure you check out this amazing video in the press section. Pia takes us on a guided tour through her beautiful Amsterdam houseboat. She has recently moved back to our shared hometown, but what a thrill it is to see this beautiful way she lives. After seeing the site and video, I kindly informed Pia that I was going to have to enlist her to style my life.

I am so excited for her upcoming book release, My Heart Wanders. I loved her last 2 books and I get the feeling I’m going to love this one even more. Go check out this glorious website, now!
