You and I are meant to be. I think about you so very often and dream of getting lost in your quiet, sakura filled lanes. I want to tie ribbons with friends, to learn the art of Japanese tea drinking, and to walk the streets of some of my most treasured stories. I fall deeper into love with your rituals and art and dream about spending time with you often. I can’t help but fall head over heels every time I see your children smile and pose for the camera. They are the sweetest on earth. Your camera stores and I are going to hold hands and dance a happy dance together. I know we were meant for each other! I hope to see you sometime soon.
Love Amanda xx
p.s. The beautiful photographs were taken by my other love, Sean. How insanely good is the picture of Kyoto Station? He allowed me to share them with you. Aren’t they beautiful?

breathtaking!!
oh amanda, i have a similar fascination of japan stemming back from my childhood in guam and getting caught up with the awe that was my japanese aunt. i’m interested in the food, design, fabric + most certainly capturing culture through people. definitely in my list of places to visit some day. really lovely photographs.
Isn’t it? He should shoot more.
You’re right, that Kyoto Station shot is amazing. I’ve been to Japan twice and I still get that sick feeling in the stomach when I see photos, that I need to go back! Still haven’t been there in Cherry Blossom time. Thanks for sharing (and to Sean too of course…)
Oops, that first reply was to Jen.
Allyn, yes, there are so many things about Japan that fascinate me. I’d really love to see the old world Japan vs crazy Tokyo. It’s such an amazing mix of art and culture.
Greg, I will pass on your thoughts on the photo to him. Thank you.
Yes, I definitely think I want to go when the cherry blossom festival is on for purely photo purposes lol
You’re a lucky man!

Fer, sweet lady, I’m sure Ive said this to you before, but your Ginza shot from our Pola book is still one of my favourite photographs EVER. I absolutely adore everything about it. It would be wonderful. We could shoot Polaroids all day long. xx
In fact, everyone, look at these amazing Tokyo Polaroids of Fer’s http://www.fernandamontoro.com/index.php?/personal/tokyo-series/
These pictures are absolutely gorgeous. He should shoot more! Wait, are they digital or film? They look like film to my eyes…
swoon on that last shot – so timeless
I love that photo of Kyoto station! Thanks for the mini visit to Japan. So nice that I didn’t even have to leave the farm. ;)
Jacqueline, yes, they are film!
Char, isn’t it? I think that’s one thing about Japan that I’m drawn to. One part of it is so modern and like nowhere else on earth and yet the other is SO timeless.
Susan, that’s the best thing about the internet, right? ;)
Wow they look incredible… i was just like wow after looking at the second pic…
These are beautiful……what a hugely talented man you’ve got yourself there!
i would love to visit kyoto someday! i’m sure i will as my fiancé (whose name is also sean) went there a few years ago and fell in love with the place. he was traveling with a friend who i guess didn’t want to stay there that long so they went back to tokyo. sean is always talking about how he wants to back to explore all of the shrines in kyoto.
when he came back from the trip a few years ago, he gave me a really cool camera that looks like this:
http://camerapedia.wikia.com/wiki/Ruvinal
which he had bought in an antique store in japan. inside was a tiny little envelope with a ring inside. and that was how he proposed. (and now i’m going to ruin the story and tell you that i actually said no at the time, because i was young and we were in a long distance relationship and i kinda freaked out and didn’t want to be engaged because it wouldn’t solve our long distance problem. it seems silly now but that’s how i felt at the time. i knew i wanted to marry him, but i just didn’t want to be engaged yet if we didn’t have a plan on being together. but it’s all good because now we ARE engaged and will be finally living in the same state in a few months! but i still think of that first proposal and how awesome it was with the camera and wish that i could tell more people that story. but it’s too complicated of a situation to explain to just anyone.)
These are beautiful photos. I would love to visit Japan as well some day. For now I just content myself with the little bits of it I get during the Cherry Blossom festival and other Japanese festivals in Vancouver.

That Kyoto station photo is outstanding.
One day I will go to Tokyo…this is a promise to myself.
The photo of the station is fantastic! Such beautiful light.

Oh it’s heartbreaking what’s happening there right now. I was there a few years back and shot lots of Polas. My thoughts are with them.
