Food Photography Inspiration

Despite my lack of love for food, I am a sucker for food photography. I love looking at it and I love shooting it myself. The textures and colours are really important in making food look good, as well as plenty of natural light. I really love the rich tones all these amazing photographers have in their food photography. Colour, texture and styling all make for instantly delicious looking shots. Every time I see something as inspiring as these photographs, I want to get in the kitchen and cook just so I can shoot! Who cares about the eating part!

Along with these amazing photographers who shoot for magazines, there are some wonderfully inspiring photographers who cook and shoot for food blogs. Here is a sampling of some of my favourite food blogs with gorgeous food photography…

  1. i had clicked through to leave you the link to what katie ate…looks like andrea beat me to it! i think you’ll like her stuff. and of course jen’s simply breakfast is always a fave too :)

  2. Amanda, I’m already loving it. I think I may have seen her blog before. Great stuff.

Allyn, mmm cherry pie is so pretty to photograph!

Ashley, I guess that’s the whole point. :) I will check Sparkling Ink out too. Thanks for the link.

  3. I love cooking and I love taking photos. But food photography at home is something I haven’t been able to embrace yet. If I stop long enough to take the photo and style it, then it will be too cold to serve! I want to have my photo and eat it too! I know that many food photographers are not necessarily eating the food afterward and that it is shot cold, so I feel better for that.

I like this blog by our fellow Australian Jules. http://thestonesoup.com/blog/
It’s minimalist home cooking with simple, very appealing photographs.

  4. i discovered how much i love photographing food only this summer! i’ve bookmarked lots of photographers because of their interior and still life portfolios though, and i’m looking forward to checking out their food portfolios when i’ve got more time. i’ll get back to you!

i must confess that the food blogs i love are the ones with the greatest photos, and the blogs you’ve listed look lovely… i’ve put together a links directory (which you’re on btw) this summer, and the ‘food’ category was a bit sparse, so this was very welcome.
