Polaroid happiness is upon me right now as two exciting little packages have arrived in the past few days. Not only do I have some packs of Impossible Project Colour Shade film, but the postman just dropped off my new Fuji Instax mini camera and film.
I have written a post on the Impossible Project film but am still doing my initial tests, so stay tuned for that hopefully later in the week. I will also be getting out with my Instax as soon as this weather clears up a little. A month of sunshine and the rain starts to pour the day my new toys arrive? Typical!
You may ask why someone like me who loves Polaroid cameras would buy a Fuji Instax. Believe me, I held off for a long time. However, I’ve recently seen some really amazing photographs shot with the Instax and they have inspired me to give it a go.
I also realise that there is more to the world of instant photography than what once was and I need to embrace it rather than balk at the idea without finding out its capabilities myself. I’m excited to use this new camera and hopefully can figure it out to shoot some Instax for the book.

The Gypsy Girl’s Guide has a fresh new look. GGG creator Alessandra Cave is about to have a bubba and she has enlisted some guest posters for the coming weeks. Stay tuned for a guest post from me.
A short film by Toast shot in Italy.
The most beautiful story I’ve read in a long time.
How gorgeous is this proposal?
Lastly…the greatest thing I’ve been listening to is Sprawl ll from The Suburbs by Arcade Fire. The whole album is brilliant but this song is my personal fave. I love it so much that I sent it to my Mum and said “listen!” She played it 3 times in a row upon hearing it for the first time. I love my mum.

the fuji is a fun little camera…it’s fluky on the light i’m still learning about that. and trying to figure out how to turn off the flash.
FUN! I loooove my fuji instax. Excited to see what you do with it!
Char, yes, I noticed the flash even went off when the dark slide came out. I certainly don’t want the flash going off all the time.
Thanks Leslie. I’m excited too. New toys are always fun.
Do you mind me asking which model you got? I’ve been thinking about getting an Instax and am trying to decide between the Mini 7s and the slightly more expensive Mini 25 but am kind of clueless about the differences.
I find instant photography so charming!! this photo is adorable!
I have recently started a film project!! you can participate too if you want to :)

have a lovely week!!!

Did you get the mini or the wide? I was very close to getting a mini, but I didn’t think I could handle the tiny photo sizes, nor the humongous camera size of the wide format, so as soon as TIP started to offer new shipping fee to Canada, I bought myself an SX-70.
Fatih, I got the Fuji Instax Mini 7s. I kinda want the wide format too. I got the mini because the film seems to be more readily available in Vancouver.
Barbara, ooh thanks for the link. I’d love to participate. :)
Jackie, yeah they size is small but it’s different. You were wise to get an SX70. I don’t think you could really compare the Fuji cameras to an SX70. My all time favourite camera. :)
Oh and Char, I’ve read that you can’t turn the flash off. I assume it only goes off indoors though. You could maybe put some tape over the top to black it out? Not sure how well that would work though hehe
It is a pain that the flash goes off in low light, but the camera is so much fun otherwise that I don’t mind! I put some washi paper tape over the flash … it doesn’t block it completely, but it’s a bit less harsh that way.
I recently got the Mini 25, so I’m gifting my Polaroid Mio to a friend. I love it that the film is so affordable, comparatively. I use it as my point-and-shoot in a lot of situations, then reserve my SX-70 shooting for more “serious” SLR needs. :-)
Hope you enjoy your new camera friend, Amanda!
That’s a good idea for the flash, Jess!
Yes, I just shot a few shots outdoors and the flash went off on one when I wasn’t expecting it to. I also shot the sky and it came out completely white. Don’t know what I did there lol
Thanks for commenting. :)
This is exciting Amanda! I am looking forward to seeing how you go with it too! I have been tossing up between the different types of Fuji Instax’s for a couple of years but then I find more polaroid film to buy and put it off again!
Hope you have lots of fun trying it out =)
I really like your sensibilities. Looking forward to seeing/hearing about the new Instax.
I’ve toyed with the idea of trying out the Instax as well. I am looking forward to seeing what you get with it- I’m sure it will be amazing :)
Wonderful links!
You’ll love it! It’s such a fun carefree little camera and I hesitate less to use it since films easier to find. :-) I’m thrilled with Jess’s tape idea! Thank you!
thanks for the arcade fire tip
My girls like to play with my Polaroids but with film so pricey I’ve been thinking about getting an Instax mini for them to share.
I can’t wait to see your color shade photos! My 3-pack is coming along with some Spectra silver shade. Can’t wait!
Last week I started playing with my polaroid mio and using fuji instax film so I was delighted to see your blog post here and all the comments on advice. I’m excited to hear how it continues to go for you! That wide format is neat looking and I’ve had my eye on it as well.
I can’t wait to see your work with the Instax. This camera is appealing to me because it would be nice to have an instant camera with readily-available film.
where can i buy the fuji instax at vancouver? thx! reply ASAP! :))
I just got on yesterday at London Drugs in Park Royal, but they didn’t have film. Had to go to London Drugs North Van for the film and they only had one package. Park Royal also has the Fuji Instax 210 but it looked so big I went for the mini. Mini film is cheaper too.
Good luck!
