Let It Go

I probably should have mentioned that I was taking a blog rest for a week but I never really like to commit to things like that so I went with the flow. The flow unfortunately did not direct me towards writing anything meaningful, so silent ole Mocking Bird sat.

My mind has been filled with all things moving, furnishing and decorating for the past month and my poor noggin is starting to spin. We will be moving in a month ( if everything goes to plan) and I can’t wait to share my new little place with you all once we are moved in.

In my never ending searches for items to make my house a home, I find I become obsessed with the hunt. Are you like this? Once I get an idea in my head that I want a cream coloured, ceramic utensils pot with a little circular detail, I don’t stop until I find it. Half the time I think I invent these things in my head. After much searching, I’ve had to settle on a white, ceramic utensils pot that has no detail whatsoever. Sometimes you just need to let it go. I mean, really, it’s a pot for holding spatulas and wooden spoons!

I did however find the most glorious, girly lamp that I’m over the moon about. If you’re ever in Vancouver and you have a penchant for French inspired white girly things,  you must visit Stella Bleu. It is my absolute favourite store.

Here are some of the places that have had my attention captured for the past few weeks:

Apartment Therapy
Lovely Design
Maillardville Manor
The Happy Home
Whole Lotta Lovely

  1. I know this feeling well of the hunt and then never can find. I’m obsessed with finding a bird on a branch lamp.

Good to have you back for the day! :)

  2. yes, i’m like that too. because we are used to having our pick in a large assortment of all kinds of things – so why shouldn’t there be circular details?

about the blogging break: i get updates on all my favourite blogs in google reader. if i discover that a blog i’m subscribing to regularly posts more than one entry a day, i unsubscribe – it’s too much to digest. i prefer waiting a couple of days, then getting this little lovely happy surprise: oh yay, a new post from …..! but that’s me, of course =)

all bloggers know that blogging takes time and that there’s no point in shelling out photos and words just because you think it’s expected of you – and i guess that most blog readers understand this as well.

good luck with the packing amanda – happy weekend!

  3. It’s oh so hard sometimes to let those ideas in your head go, especially when you know exactly what it should look like, right down to the little circular detail!

  4. how exciting! i can’t wait to see pictures of your new home! i’m a bit home/apartment obsessed and wish i was moving into one of my own. so i vicariously live through people like you! and of course drool over pretty decorating pictures :)

  5. Char, a birdie on a branch lamp sounds delightful. I’ll keep an eye out while I scour the net for pieces.

BC, so true. There are TOO many choices! And I do that thing where I look at so many and then don’t want to commit because I may see the perfect thing somewhere else. It happened with a silly soap dispenser. I couldnt find one I liked, so I bought the one I disliked least lol. Of course, the very next day I found one that I loved!
And yes, I don’t feel I have to blog every day, I was just surprised that I hadn’t for nearly a week lol

Emma… I m must have seen the one I have in my head somewhere, right?!

    Andrea, thanks :)
It will just be a rental for us for now but I’m certainly going to make it as much ours as I can. I’m so excited because my partner and I literally won’t have been in our own place for a whole year! We stayed with my mum for a while before we left Sydney so it’s a while since we had our own space. So excited about that.

  6. I feel like I have been on the hunt for ever! But I love doing that. It’s always so fun to get ideas from places and then try to find things cheaper. I can’t wait to see pictures when it’s all complete.

  7. I just saw some images of yours in another blog and… I was speachless. I’ve always asked myself if it’s possible to take pictures so beautifully? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen plenty of amazing images, but like yours….. never.
    Thank you.

  8. Thanks Daniella!

Jen, yes that’s totally what I’m trying to do. Hunting for a cheaper version or just a cheaper price somewhere else lol
    It’s all SO expensive UGH

Priscilla, thank you so much. Your comment just made my day. It means a lot to me. What was the blog?

  9. Hi Amanda! I got your comment, I totally mixed up those other photos! I think I must have been really tired that day! I just noticed it this morning though, lol…
