Wandering Neighbourhoods: Crescent Beach
by Amanda on July 14, 2010

Crescent Beach is one of those hidden little places that upon entering feels like you’ve almost stepped into somewhere completely separate from Vancouver. The ‘Welcome to Crescent Beach’ sign looks like something out of a Jaws movie and sets the tone for the quiet haven that rests ahead. Beautiful, quaint ocean houses line the streets and some are lucky enough to have the ocean as their backyard. I’ve never seen the place as busy as it has been the past few weeks with all this gorgeous weather we are having here in Vancouver.
Photographs were taken with a Yashica FX3 camera using Kodak Portra 400NC film.

Oh my gosh. I’m in love and want to live here!
But your gorgeous photos could make me want to live anywhere. ; )
Thanks CC. It is a beautiful pace.
aww Shanon. I just shoot ‘em as I see ‘em.
Thanks Char!
wow. simply stunning place! :)
Gorgeous pics as always! Love the sign that says only Walter can park! Hilarious!
Thanks for commenting Susan. :)
Thanks Holly. Isn’t it? There are lots of no parking signs outside houses but this one had us chuckling.
I can almost feel the sun through these photos – gorgeous. Funny, I was walking downtown today (in Chicago) and a chipper young girl said, “Explore Canada’s beautiful beaches!” as I walked by. She was hired by the Canadian tourist board, I assume. There have been a lot of Canada tourism commercials on TV lately, too.
p.s. My husband and I actually did vacation in Vancouver two years ago. We looooved it and even seriously considered moving there. But then Obama was elected… ;)
Beautiful photos! I’ve never been out to Crescent Beach, but it’s one of the place I’ve been meaning to get to . Thanks so much for sharing your photos and thoughts here about it.
These are so lovely and summery. You are great at capturing the feeling of a moment : )
My hubby and I walk there all the time! – Your photos definitely captured the beauty & essence of Crescent, LOVE these. Thanks!
Very nice, love the softness and light…have you scanned these yourself, or at the lab? Sometimes my labs scans are very sharp and contrasty, I don’t like it. I know yours are mainly a result of film+lens combination, but sometimes the scanning can add a nice touch to the result…anyway…I like them :)
Amazing photos
haha Dottie, those pushy Canadians
I loved what you said about Obama ha!
Ashley, it’s a pretty place in summer. There isn’t much in the way of shops but there are some restaurants and gelato place.
Thanks Allison. :)
Kelly, it is a great place for walking. My Sean and I go quite often of an evening.
Katarina, I usually scan myself as I always like having prints however the last couple of months, I’ve been getting the lab to scan because I’m trying to save on space living where we are.
Once we move out in September, I’ll prolly go back to scanning myself. I’m always pretty happy with the lab I go to although sometimes the colour corrections are a bit off.
I’m picking up some film on the weekend from a diff lab which are prints. It’ll be a nice experiment to see how they look as it’s the same film.
Thanks Johanna. Your interview is coming up next week!
Lovely pictures of a gorgeous place! I spent nearly a week sightseeing in Vancouver recently, and although I didn’t make it to Crescent Beach, I wish I had!
I particularly like the flare captured in some of your shots, especially in the first, thrid and fifth shots as you’ve ordered them in your post. Do you find some cameras and/or lenses flare more than others in your collection?
Jak, I hadn’t really experimented with this camera and lens flare much before and was pretty pleased with how they come out. It was actually more emphasized than I’d imagined.
Yes, I think some lenses and cameras definitely capture it better than others. I couldn’t get this from my digital on the same settings.
Hi Amanda! I found your blog through your Flickr account and your photos are amazing! Love, love, love your work!
