This Is What I Want

I want you to buy film from The Impossible Project on Thursday.

I want you to take bundles of Polaroids so that you have piles of them stacked on your shelves.

I want you to watch this.

I want you to look at this and this and this and this. And this one too.

I want you to understand why I am so passionate about this art form.

I want to have Polaroids of my wedding day.

I want my future children to enjoy using the same Polaroid camera that I have used.

I want to see their faces when they see the image appear in front of them like magic.

Thursday is the beginning.

What do you want?

  1. What a precious posts! I heart your wants! Yay for the Impossible Project. My sister is giving me a Polaroid for my upcoming bday and I seriously can’t wait.
I also desperately want Polaroids of my wedding day. And of our honeymoon up in the mountains.
I want to enjoy the instant gratification of Polaroid, learn from the patience-inducing rolls of 35mm, and examine the digital shot that teaches me that technology can never substitute for curious eyes and a receptive soul.

  2. I have only just begun my polaroid journey. I bought my first SX-70 several years ago, only to have it not work well (light leaks and squeezed the chemicals out of all of the photos, onto the rollers… huge mess!). Then, of course, it was difficult for me to get film – I think it was 2005/2006.

So, I am at it again! I want new photographers continue to be inspired by instant film and it’s beauty.

  3. done, done and done. and i love it all.

so yes, madam. i have followed your instructions to the letter, and tomorrow i will buy some film.

this post makes me happy :)

  4. Leslie, that was so beautifully said. Thank you. :)

Oh Sarah, I’m sorry that happened with the rollers. Because the cameras are so old, I make sure I clean the rollers each time I put a new film pack in now. Sometimes they get stuck and decide to destroy the Polaroid- it can really frustrating, hey?

my spatula, I think it’s definitely achievable. We just have to have the eyes that want to see them, right?

    Aw Charlane, thanks gorgeous!

    Alli, I hear ya, missy!

    Kate, haha I was a bit bossy wasn’t I? Can’t help it, I’m a teacher hehe
Thanks for the sweet RT, btw. :)

You guys make me smile so big.

  5. Oh Amanda, I want all those things too!

Actually, right after I read about the press conference I turned to my fiance and said “Now we can have Polaroid shots at our wedding!!” He wasn’t quite as over the moon as I was. I wonder… should I send a wedding invite to the Impossible Project to thank them?

  6. I love love love this post. I’ve been following your blog for a couple of months now because I followed you on Flickr after seeing your polaroids a few times. I’ve been wanting an SX-70 for years now since before Polaroid announced they were ceasing production and FINALLY a few weekends ago I found one at a local flea market. I haven’t been able to put it down since and am still learning how to use it and falling more in love with it every day. I stocked up on 600 film recently but have been delirious with excitement over Impossible Project’s new batch of monochrome instant film. I will definitely be shooting. B&W happens to be my favorite film to use in my 35mm so to have it in my new beloved SX-70 just makes me giddy.

Sorry this was so long but I really do love this post and your blog and polaroid. :)

  7. I just bought a pack of the new film. I could only afford one pack, but I think it will make it all the more precious for me. I can’t wait to see what comes out.

  8. I love this, love this, love this. Your blog is one of the ones that inspired me to buy a Polaroid camera, and I’m so glad I did.
I am so excited that this film is available again. While expired film can be fun, it’s not quite the same, you know?
I wish I could have had polaroids of my wedding!

  9. Lovely Ashley hooked me up so yes, I can now tick off number 1 as well! Thank you, Ashley!

Lili, I love long, interesting comments so no apology necessary.

Cindy, I am super excited too. Who knew it would actually be this exciting?

Anna, I think we will all be really nervous with our first pack, especially when it seems pretty sensitive to light.

    Yay Heather!

Yeah, Carol, it looks great and the guy who is making it is an AWESOME Polaroid photographer. He is one of the 1st people I discovered online in my search for Polaroiders.

Jackie, maybe you’ll just have to recreate it in the backyard hehe

  10. Hah! That wouldn’t be too hard, considering it was a backyard wedding anyway!

Our children will never know that those polaroids are from 6 months after the wedding… muahahaha.
