Happy days are here again! The most amazing announcement was made at The Impossible Project‘s press conference this morning in New York. Today it was announced that Polaroid film is back and will be available for purchase this week!
Starting Thursday 25 March new film will available for our Polaroid cameras. This is not Polaroid film as it is not made by Polaroid but it is Impossible Project film made for our Polaroid cameras. I am so excited that I can barely write this fast enough.
Available this week will be 2 films.
- PX 100
- PX 600 Silver Shade
The film will be available from The Impossible Project for 18 EUR /US$21.
A bunch of very lucky photographers were asked to be film testers and you can see their work here.
Coming in the summer is colour film! This is from TIP press kit:
Impossible plans to present its first PX Color Film in summer 2010. Furthermore a Silver Shade as well as a Color Version of the larger Integral Instant Film format for usage in all Polaroid Image/Spectra/1200 cameras is planned. In total, Impossible‘s schedule is to present 6 new Instant Film formats within 2010.
I’m so excited that I cannot contain it and I feel the need to crack open my last pack of film that I have sitting patiently waiting to be turned into magic.
The British Journal of Photography has more information here.
Check out the video on The Impossible Project website with Doc and Andre.
All the info you need can be found here, although be patient if it’s not working. I’d say their website is getting slammed today.
I am SO bloody excited! I suggest all of you who were umming and ahhing about buying a Polaroid camera or not, get yourselves to ebay now. Yes, I am encouraging you all to go out and buy a Polaroid camera! I’m off to watch that video again. Doc, I love you!
EDIT: A great article about how it all started -thanks for the link, Susannah.

This is the such exciting news – I was following the live tweets from the press conference today like a maniac! I recently got an SX-70 and I never would have believed that I could love a camera so much. You were one of my major inspirations to experiment with Polaroid, so thank you!
Aww Alli, thank you. That means a lot to me. :)
great news amanda! i’ve read about this project and have been excited to see if anything would come out of it. i’m very happy for you – and for us all, because it means that we’ll get to see more lovely polaroids from your cameras =)
I was grinning all day yesterday after I read about it! I can’t wait to get my hands on a pack of the film.
Yay!!!! Will then new film being any less expensive? Also, do you know how many shot per roll? I love Polaroid photos and bought a camera recently but have yet to take a photo with it due to the cost of film.
Celebrating with you, Amanda. :)
Vicki, the film will be around $22 for a pack of 8.
I was paying $30 for a pack of 10 when Polaroid 600 film was still available in the stores.
I am really pleased because I was expecting it to be A LOT more expensive simply because of setting up costs and what these guys have gone through to get this up and running.
Polaroid film has never been cheap but when you compare buying normal film and processing/prints, it’s no different.
35mm film – between $6-$18 a roll
Processing- $15 at least for processing and prints at somewhere decent.
I think a lot of people find film expensive but it’s only because they compare it to digital. I think it’s worth the money if it’s something you love.
I’ve also read that there will be a limit of 5 packs per customer to begin with at TIP’s online store.
I’m so happy I found your blog (from “Artful Blogging”). I’ve been browsing around for a good hour.
When I came across this post about the new Impossible Project I RAN down two flights of stairs to retrieve my old Polaroid! It is a One-Step. I hope this new film will work for me.
Thanks! LOVE your blog!
