Shall We Blog It Forward?

by on February 15, 2010

And I’m kicking the week off with a post chocked to the brim with inspirational goodness as it was deemed the topic of conversation for this little blogger mash up among 300 friends. Victoria of sfgirlbybay organised this little shindig and asked bloggers to share what inspires them. Manvi of Mochatini passes it on to me today.

For those of you that are new to Mocking Bird, take a look around and please feel free to join in on the conversation.

Things That Inspire Me:

Homes like Paris, Tuscany, Barcelona, Dublin, Tokyo, Sydney and Vancouver.

Places like cafes, french pattisseries, bookstores and outdoor markets.

Books and magazines of the interior design kind.

Fabrics and patterns in the clothes that I wear.

Details in architecture…windows, doors, lamp posts and street signs.

Films like Amelie, Stealing beauty, Science of Sleep, Vicky Christina Barcelona, Marie Antoinette and Lost in Translation and more currently Bright Star.

Music like Bjork, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, The Arcade Fire, Grizzly Bear, Phoenix, Goldfrapp, The Big Pink.

Papery things like lined journals, new sharpened pencils, snailmailed letters, brown paper packages.

All Things French… Those who know me, know how obsessed I am with all things Parisian and yet I’ve still never been.

The end of a year, the start of a season, the beginning of an era, the end of a holiday all inspire me to change, to create, to make new.

Right now I’m most inspired to find a new place to call my own with empty rooms to decorate and furniture to place, to nest and feel safe.

My friends, my family, my Canadian.

And of course all the fabulous photographers and bloggers out there who inspire me everyday. What inspires you?

I now hand over to Jena of the wonderful blog Modish who will be sharing with you tomorrow. Check out these bloggers who are sharing their inspirations today:

diary of lovely * bread of many * darcy rogers * paper and thread * seek and find design * green chair studio * swoonette

This was such a beautiful post! I love cafes, fabrics, patterns and home decorating too! You could totally come over to my house and help me decorate our basement once it is finished being renovated hehe. It will be a big empty space and I have no idea what to do with it! =) I love the little line about how the end of the year or holiday inspires you to change, I haven’t heard that one before but it’s true that once you have a vacation or am able to visit family, you have a renewed energy to go out and accomplish things!

I love your inspirations, we are mostly inspired by the same things! :)

It is interesting though, to see that we have exactly the same taste in film, but so different music tastes.. :)

Sandy, I’m jealous! But yes an empty canvas is often hard to start with. The Domino book has some great decorating tips. I love Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic books for decorating ideas too.
And yes, the end of seasons, years, holidays, always charge me up to start again.

Mausumi, who are your faves in music?

Melissa, I’ve got something I’m planning out of inspiration from it too. :)
Janis, good taste, baby, good taste!
Arcadia, yes I never really got to enjoy it as it wasn’t on sale in Australia where I’m from. Seems so many great mags are dying.
Amy, we will get there, I just know it!
Ashikin, thanks so much. I’m always posting my photographs so stay tuned. :)

First of all, I am in love with your twitter icon. It is the best one I have seen on any blog so far. Many things in common, like never been to France but love it oh-so-much; details in architecture — I love the edges of things; and the best one of all for me, is Neruda. Oh how I love his love poems. They stir my soul. You must have the Il Postino cd then? It’s been wonderful visiting from Blog It Forward, I actually was a subscriber already but I have fallen woefully behind on my newsreader since Twitter. :)
