Mulder and Scully

by Amanda on February 9, 2010

I ADORE the fact that one of the comments I got for these shots on Flickr was

“Oh Manda, this is something right out of the first few seasons of the X-files”

That comment gave me the biggest grin because I totally love that I’m living in the land of Mulder and Scully. If I only I lived here while they were shooting. I would have been such a groupie, trying to get a glimpse of dreamy Duchovny.

Vancouver certainly is a filming happy town. I notice the little fluoro coloured signs pointing Movie crews in the direction of the set all over the place. I even made Sean follow one the other day down near Jericho Beach. Sure enough, a film crew were setting up outside this gorgeous house which I concluded must have been an outside set for a scene from Fringe. We are all experts in these matters, right?  I’m quite fascinated by the whole thing because of the lighting and camera set ups, not because I may catch a glimpse of a Twilight starlet.

As you can see from my photographs, the scenery and weather here certainly make for some interesting locations. These were taken along some farmland roads, one morning while the fog was still laying low in the valley. It was quite breath taking and inspired me to shoot scenes I normally wouldn’t. That’s one thing I love about photography…your ideas and inspirations change so rapidly and it allows you to grow and change. Shooting a landscape has never really interested me, but a moment like this, I couldn’t really pass up.

    Thanks Tara. :)

Fog is one of the best things in a photograph. It makes things a little more magical or haunting. Either way I like these a lot.

    i love foggy, dreamy landscapes

I have always been addicted to shooting landscapes, I have no idea why but that was always ‘my thing’. Isn’t it great being in a new setting and being forced to shoot something out of your normal comfort zone? I really need to work on photographing people, that was never my thing.

If the fog is good for anything over there, it’s for helping you create these incredible photos, thank you for sharing!
    xx

PS I love seeing movie sets for the set design, I get all giddy over the detail. And the cinematography of course! Love love.
PPS bummed I missed you in Sydney but don’t worry, I will be hoping with all my heart I can come to Van this year – I just hope you will not be visiting Sydney when I’m there!

i have never been able to capture fog. it’s always around, but slowly slouches away from my lens. these are really fantastic.
i love that you were following the crew signs! i think i would drive myself batty because i’d follow all of them :)

when lovely bones was being film in my town, i took a good mile walk in search of mark wahlberg. just to glimpse him would make my year.

i ended up meeting peter jackson, though not as handsome, still as rewarding!

Very cool and oh so mysterioso! If i were to write a book i would want these photos interspersed through the pages where i couldn’t find the right “words” to say…

Hehe! How i love that scene in the cornfields! xx

  9. AMANDA says:

Thanks Alexandria and Charlane. Yeah, I’ve never really had the chance before. Aussie fog doesn’t stick around for very long.

Pia dear, I think you’d be fabulous at shooting people. Yes, when I do it, I stop and think about what I’m doing, realise I have no clue what I’m doing, but just shoot away and see what happens.
Yes, I couldn’t believe it. I used to live about 2 minutes from Berkelouw- aren’t they the best bookstores? I am planning a trip home but dates are finalised just yet.

Tina, it’s funny, I was drawn to that particular one just because of where it was and we got some looks from the film crew hehe
My mum would be very jealous, she’s a huge LOTR/Peter Jackson fan.

Nik, you write that book, baby! You know it’s in your blood, cowgirl. xxx

    Kate haha
I get very geek excited when we are driving along and the Canadian points out somewhere that was used in the show. I was a decade too late lol

Lovely; so moody and atmospheric! Muted colours aren’t usually my thing (I love bright, shiny, splashy!) but I really love how austere and calm these are. :)

  11. megan says:

teehee :D the x-files connection is one of the many reasons I am so totally jealous of your move! I used to fantasize about going to vancouver and meeting DD!

  12. If I didn’t know any better, these images would have me believing you shoot landscapes all the time. They are gorgeous. I love the muted colors.
