A LITTLE CHANGE

I felt the pink was too cheery for this time of year and I get bored of looking at the same thing all the time. We shall see how long I last before a photograph goes back into the header. I also realised that the sidebars were getting too messy.

A good article on cleaning up your sidebar by Aussie blogging guru, Darren Rowse.

I like to think of my blog like I do a room in my house. After a while, I get bored of the cushions and where the shelves are placed, so I do the big, “let’s change everything around!” move. This is the kind of thing that at the time seems like a brilliant, creative idea. You feel like your room could be looking like a photograph out of a magazine with just a few simple changes. When suddenly it’s 5pm and you have piles of cds, bags of paper rubbish and bobby pins that went missing 4 months ago all over the floor. What a terrible idea this was.

But then you get your second wind, after a donut and a cry, and so you power on through until the late hours and it all looks new and sparkly again. I used to love that feeling as a kid, when your bed was moved to a different spot. It was like you were staying in a hotel that your Mum owned.

Have you done any “remodeling” of anything lately?

Comments are down here now. Too much confusion before!

it looks nice! you used to have the exact same pink as i have on my blog, so obviously, i liked the old one too, but this is really lovely!

i do remodeling all the time. i’ve finally found the right placement for my furniture, but i often do mini-makeovers. i feel the same way as you about my blog being a home. i recently started a new blog because i felt the old one was becoming too small (it was about interior design, and after a while it felt like an apartment with one room only!). i think i learnt very much from the old one regarding sidebar clutter – especially labels. i’m still checking out the article!

Waou ! Looks great ! I rarely move things around the house but I’m always full of ideas about the blog … May be a Chrismas banner ;o)

Oh I so know that feeling! When I’m re-organising I dump everything on my bed in the middle of my room and at the end when I’m happy with everything else I look back at the bed and there are still piles of ‘rubbish’ on there – thinbgs I have no idea where to put but that can’t actually be thrown away! And by then it is 11pm and I want to go to sleep I am so knackered (and sneezy – dust always makes me sneeze) that it ends up as a pile on the floor again!
p.s. I have the same sense about my blog page being a room in my home, I’m always tinkering with the side bar or trying to create new headers/buttons etc! Just to spruce things up a bit, but I generally always go back to what I had before!

It looks lovely! I love changing things up every now and then. Sadly my intent to change things around on my own blog has developed into a many months hiatus. You could say I’ve had plenty of donuts, and maybe a few cries…but not what comes after. :)
It’s gorgeous, and it feels right for the season. :) Did you make all the headers and title images yourself? What do you use to make them?

This is no “little” change….this is a big and beautiful change, Amanda! I loved your blog design before but love this one just as much. Glad to be back at blogging. I’ll be dropping more. ;) xo!

Beauty Comma, I do love the pink and I may regret this by the end of the week hehe
Although my main reason for the change was I hated the layout of it before. I like my sidebars on either side. I really had to tweak this thing to get it the way I wanted it though!

Catherine, a Parisian Christmas banner would be lovely.

haha Kate, I’ve done that many times too. The trick is to find a path lol

Chuck, I must admit, this is the first time I’ve done this but I actually bought the header and just added my own text to it. Actually I changed the colour inside the circley bit. I made all the other little icons in the sidebars in photoshop (apart from the twitter birdie which I found years ago on a freebie Japanese web graphics site).

    Vicki, yes, I guess so!
We still need to do our little collaboration, whatever that may be hehe

Thanks for the responses, lovelies. I always get nervous when I do a big redesign.
