Your Perfect Room

Lately I have a lot of time to dream and ponder and this freedom is allowing me the luxury of dreaming up my life again. At this point in time, I have no job and nothing tying me down to any definite kind of situation. It’s a scary place to be but also a liberating and freeing one.

I’m dreaming up a new life for myself and as I pour over endless apartments for rent on craigslist and drive the streets looking at the beautiful homes in Vancouver, I often slip into that happy daze of “what if?”.

I’m dreaming up the perfect home, the perfect kitchen, the perfect garden, the perfect room to sit and read and ramble. I see lots of light in that streamy kind of way, with a soft, billowy couch strewn with pastel coloured throws and writing desk off to the right with an endless supply of sharpened pencils all bunched up waiting for me to write my letters home.

Here are some perfect rooms in which to scribble in diaries and write letters home. How do you see your perfect room? Is it dark and lit with candles or bright and sunny? Does it have a bed or a couch? Cushions or pussy cats?

What is your perfect room?

  1. Oh my goodness, I completely, 100 percent know what you mean. I can get so lost in daydreaming the perfect home, and my flickr favorites are filled with inspiration. Congrats on not having a job and gaining a new sense of freedom. I am still hoping for that gust of change to hit me.

  2. Yes, my perfect place is always old and charming – telling lots of stories and brimming with character… and filled with the most welcoming, beautiful light… Not bright necessarily, but comforting, if that makes sense… I need light – the dreamy, peaceful kind…

It sounds like a great (albeit scary) place to be… Good luck with all of it. I’ll be coming back now and then to check in and see how your adventures are coming along..!

  3. Lauren, I may have to check out your flickr faves!

Sophia, yay to old and charming. Modern places can be so stale at times.

Oh, yes Maria, it has to be the right kind of light. ;)

  4. I love rooms with lots of big windows overlooking natural areas (with neighbors at a distance, but still good neighbors!) like forests and streams and maybe a hobby farm nestled in there… I love slanted ceilings on second floors. And exposed wood and brick and white panels and broadsides and bookcases… words everywhere. xo

  5. oh, i dream about a perfect home too. mine would be a house, with big windows and a lot of light, with enough space for my two kids, big living room, spaciuos kitchen, and preferably some private space for myself and my husband, something like home office or creative corner. a little garden would be nice, too ;) I constantly dream about it, but, really, i have to work much more than i do today to buy something like that i want!
