New To Polaroid? Time To Get A Camera!

by Amanda on October 6, 2009

Do you spend time fawning over beautiful, light filled Polaroids on flickr wishing you had a camera of your own? Do you love the ease of digital photography but prefer the look of film? Do you want to be like all the cool camera kids?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, then I suggest you do yourself a huge favour and get yourself a Polaroid camera.

What? Is she mad? Polaroid film is dead, kaput, discontinued! Yes, this is true (for now- thank you Impossible Project) but it is still available if you look hard enough and depending on the camera you have, readily available in the form of Fuji Instant.

  1. Your heart will sing and you will feel joy that you have never felt before.
  2. You will experience that pure  happiness that one does when shooting with a Polaroid camera.
  3. You will be able to not only fawn over others’ Polas but you will be able to show yours off too!
  4. You will be able to participate in Roid Week (Nov 2 -6) which is awesome fun.
  5. You will have jaw dropping little squares of magic all over your house.
  6. You won’t have to take your film to the photo store to be developed and printed.
  7. You won’t need to use Poladroid ever again.
  8. You will experience the ecstasy that is the click and whirr.
  9. Your artistic photography skills will instantly jump from hopeful beginner to arty farty photography student.
  10. AND…

  11. You will make awesome Polaroid friends who are super cool!!

Do you need any more convincing?

Now that I have convinced you, later in the week, I am going to show you what you need to do to go about acquiring a camera and where to get your hands on some film.

I am very excited about this! I have tried to get into the whole Polaroid thing, and I have 2 cameras…but I am still lost. (and I have no film…)

I can’t wait for your next post on the topic. :)

  2. Amanda says:

Oh good, Chuck. You are half the way there!

  3. Vanessa says:

Great post! I have 6 different Polaroids and I’m still at times afraid of using them and wasting film. :-/

  4. Jamieanne says:

I’ve got a Polaroid One Step (with the rainbow stripe down the middle) back in Sydney, but the last time I used it, the picture came out really messed up. I can’t remember exactly what the pictures looked like, but I didn’t use it again. I hope it isn’t ruined. I did get some good pictures out of it before it started messing up.

  5. Ashley says:

Ah! Polaroid Joys! I want to be a cool camera kid too! I have a couple of Polaroid cameras (one Automatic 104 which takes the Fuji FP100C film, and one Impulse AF), but the camera I really long for is an SX-70…. such pretty pictures come from it!

Looking forward to the next post!

  6. Katie says:

I’ve been putting off getting a Polaroid camera for the past year and a half, but as a film shooter, I know it’s time, so I’m looking forward to hearing about where/what to get!

  7. Sandra says:

I can’t wait for the second part, on how to get film. I’ve been looking for a new creative challenge, and this might be it!

  8. Dottie says:

I look forward to reading the next part. The Polaroid camera I had in high school seems to be lost forever. So sad, but I’m hoping to find an inexpensive one at a thrift store one day.

  9. Vicky says:

OMG I just bought a Polaroid SX70 1000 from ebay… HOPING it works! The vendor says it has been modified and service, so it takes 600 film… any ideas what to search for when buying a flash unit? I want to get a battery one ideally but not much is showing up on UK ebay :-(
