Blogging Goals

It sounds so geeky, but I love reading blogging blogs. Yes, blogs about blogging. It’s got geekfest written all over it, but I actually find them really interesting to read. One of the big things awesome people like Darren Rowse talk about is setting goals for yourself and what you want to achieve with your blog.

I have a little diary where I write down ideas and inspirations but I also have one ridiculous goal. For my stats I’ve started using the awesome and free Google Analytics. You should check it out if you don’t use it already. It’s got too much information that I don’t need but one cool feature is the Map Overlay. It basically tells you where people reading your blog, are in the world. I have discovered that I have readers in the US, Canada, UK, Sweden, France, The Netherlands, Singapore, Germany, Norway (Hello, Norway!), The Phillipines, Japan, Finland, NZ, Estonia, Ireland, Bulgaria, China and the list goes on and on. One country that is not on my list however is Iceland.

So this is my goal. I want a visitor from Iceland! Maybe I should start talking more about my love for Icelandic princesses and princes. They are in fact my favourite kinds of musicians. I know you know Bjork and she’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I do implore you to listen to some Sigur Ros and if that’s even a bit out there for your liking, then try some Emiliana Torrini. She is quite the songstress…then of course, there is Amina and múm.

Watch gorgeous Emiliana’s Jungle Drum! It’s crazy and fun.

Iceland, come find me!!!

Do you have any blogging goals? Even just silly ones like my Icelandic dream? I do have more than having an Icelandic visitor but it’s pretty high on my list.

p.s. Hello to all my visitors from all over the world! Comment and tell me where you are blogging from…I’d love to know which towns you are in.

Hi from London! I wish I was from Iceland though so I could make your wish come true :)

My only blogging goal is to get my poor little neglected blog back on track and be more prolific. We’re in the middle of a major house move and we are ebaying all our stuff and I have no time to paint or draw. I can’t wait till things settle down.

Oh and I love Sigur Ros but had no idea they were Icelandic.

  2. Rhianne says:

What a briliant goal! I’m reading this from Leeds, England (sorry not Iceland…) I’m not sure what my blogging goals are yet … at first it was just to have people reading it – now that they are I’m stumped!

  3. green ink says:

That is very cool. Hi from London :D

My only blogging goal is to write a bit more than I have been lately!

  4. Blogging from Vancouver, Canada :)

I love Bjork and Emiliana, now I’ll have to check out those others! Happy Friday.

  5. Tamara says:

Sorry no Iceland here. I’m currently in Cambridgeshire but I have been trying to decide where to move to. If I moved to Iceland would I count or are you really just looking for an Icelandic national. Only joking. What fun to find out that sort of information, I have used Statcount on websites in the past which also shows these statistics, I didn’t realise Google had one, I’ll look it up. I also have a little book that I swipe out of my bag at odd intervals thoughout the week to remind myself of things I want to Blog, not a lot of it has made it to the Blog yet though, I might read Darren’s tips. The one thing I really wish I could achive though is some better photography, my favorite blogs all have great photography – That should be my goal ditch the camera phone.

  6. Jessica says:

Love your goal … what fun! I am reading from beautiful Boise, Idaho. Not at all an exotic locale .. but I’m reading nonetheless.

  7. Ashley says:

I’m from Vancouver, Canada, though I wish I was from Iceland.

My blog is just starting out, so my goals right now are just to have people read it. Thanks for the link to the problogger site, perhaps it will give me some suggestion on how to advance my blogging skills.

  8. Tara says:

Hi there! I’m in Tulsa, OK. Just recently discovered your blog and think it is lovely. My blog goal [this week] is to get 50 official followers [I'm at 49!].
    Have a lovely weekend!

  11. I’m from Melbourne, Australia!
My goal for this month is to post more than a lazy once per week :)

  12. amanda says:

    Oh I love your responses.
All your locations seem exotic to me! OK, well maybe not Glamarama, Chantelle, lol
Aveen, life does often get in the way and makes it much harder to blog. I find the best way to combat that is to have some posts lined up in a time you can find to dedicate to it. I’m trying to get myself organised on the weekend when I have more time.

Rhianne, definitely check out Problogger, he has great ideas.
Green Ink, Darren says to aim for 4 to 5 posts a week. I have been trying but it’s hard!

Amanda, definitely try them out, there’s something all very Icelandic about all those artists. So different but something that bonds them too.

LOL Tamara..well I guess I can’t really know if the people in Finland are Finnish, so when are you moving? ;)

Jessica, I always thought Boise was the coolest town name. Thanks for commenting.
Ashley, it’s great to find another Vancouver blog! Thanks for commenting.

Ooh Tara, that is a similar goal to mine but mine is with subscribers. I watch the little count go up each day and it’s nice to know that more people are subscribing.

Chantelle, do you know many other cool Sydney bloggers? I’m very good friends with Tracey of Sh1ft, James of Jimagery and know Daniel Boud of Boudist but don’t really know many more. I’m glad I’ve found you!

Donna, where did you find that book? I’m intrigued.

Wild tea, it’s a good goal to have! I LOVE your town and I would like to get down there once more before I move to Vancouver. Hello Melbourne. :)

Hi SF! I want to visit your town so badly, Denise!

  13. Dottie says:

Hello, my name is Dottie and I also read Problogger :) I live in Chicago. Right now my goal is to make sure I don’t miss opportunities to interact with my readers. I’m trying to keep up with emails and information I receive and integrate it all into my posts as appropriate. If that makes sense.

    Love your blog!

  14. Chuck says:

Hi from FL, USA. I’m a Swiss import, so you have a Swiss reader, too. :) (In case you didn’t before)

My blogging goals…I think I need to give mine a little more direction, and a purpose somehow, so people will want to read it. :) I think right now my goal is just to write a blog I love. If I love it then I won’t feel bad about subjecting anyone else to it.

  15. Marc says:

Well, you got your wish. Here’s Iceland!
By the way, if you want to know about Icelandic music,
check out the website: http://www.icelandmusic.is, many of Iceland’s
bands and songwriters are listed there with links to their websites, etc.

Blogging goals…yes i certainly have some!
It may sound a bit strange, but i’d really like my blog to become a little more ‘professional’….I like blogging so much, that i would love to maybe have a few ‘sponsors’ in the future and spend some more time blogging..
Hmm…i don’t know really, maybe i want something totally different i a few months, haha.

I’m going to add your link to my blogroll right away!

Thanks again for offering to send me Frankie, it’s greatly appreciated!!

    Mila.

  17. Mike says:

Sorry not from Iceland..just good ol’ New Jersey! Any who…I love ProBlogger too but I also follow entrepreneurs-journey.com (Yaro) he is awesome too. At one point I had 4 blogs going and never a visit from Iceland so good luck! I hope you do get it…I like your targeting of specific countries. I should try that..pick one a week!

  18. sheena says:

Hello! Look at all your fun readers from all over!! I’m in Salt Lake City….not too exotic…but I’m originally from Montana (cowboys and indians!). How many people can say that:)

  19. reading from the exact opposite of iceland:

    bali [indo]

LOVEing the blog and the randomness of the goal.

    my goals:
    1. getting a troop of blogger ‘correspondents’ from around the world to help shape the bar dream as it becomes a reality. recruiting now!
    2. getting round to decorating the blog design – i’m an analogue girl in a digital world and need all kinds of help [still can't work out google analytics. humph.]
    3. making friends with a dslr and persuading it to help me make my blog look prettier.

iceland is on my hit list. so creative and magical.
saw sigur ros and mumm at the montreux jazz festival / bjork in london before i left. out of this world. seriously.
check out ‘screaming masterpiece’ [for the music wow] and ‘noi albinoi’ [for the celluloid wow].

  20. kate says:

ooo, i love emiliana torrini’s music – my heart is beating like a jungle drummmm….
and my blogging goals are simply to see if other people are inspired by the things that inspire me.
your site does, so thank you!

  21. Kat says:

Yay amanda I see you have a reader from Iceland you’ll have to come up with another country to aim for.
I’m from England and have just lately found you& you’ve become a favourite blog of mine I have a little box link on my blog for you so it’s easy for me to pop over. I want to catch up on some more of your loveliness in older posts too. The flickr fav’s are among my favourites you do. Love kat x

  22. [...] them easily. It’s a good idea to write your goals down. Thanks for all the great responses to Blogging Goals. Let me know how you’re going on your goals! var linkwithin_site_id = 36644; (function () { [...]

  23. Estonia calling! :)
Google Analytics is an awesome tool, such fun to explore all those stats. (Although I chose not to put it on my current blog because I got a bit too obsessed with it on my previous one..! This one is just for me, and if anyone drops by and likes what they see, that’s a bonus but not the goal. :)
P.S. I love this song by Emiliana Torrini – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UY5dZwcm_dE

  24. Bronwyn says:

I’m Bronwyn from Toronto, Ontario! I STILL want to reply to your email – traveling this summer has led to little computer time but I suppose that’s ideal. I struggle with blogging. A lot. As in I’ll talk my friend’s (single as I only know one girl who blogs!) ear off about how to balance my own needs, like preserving memories but still being aware I’m writing to “the public.” Granted it’s limited to about 50 readers of whom I’ve never met, it’s still something to keep in mind. So I suppose the goal is to maintain that balance so that I can still look back in years to come and remember rather than stare blankly at the writing, so censored and altered I don’t remember at all.

  25. Wicked Halo says:

You can add a visitor from Portugal, Lisbon to your list now :)

I LOVE LOVE Bjork, and Iceland is a place I must goto one day, you know you’ve made me check my google statistics, and I’ve found I’ve had 6 visits from Iceland :)

Also you might like Gus Gus, they’re also icelandic, not as dreamy as Emiliana or Sigur Ros, but good nonetheless!

  26. Katarina says:

    I´d love to say I´ m from Iceland, but I´m not…I´m from Slovakia :)
Iceland is one of my dreams too though, especially after seeing the amazing Sigur Ros´film Heima.

My blogging goals..I´m not sure, I´ve just started it…I´d just like to talk to people, sometimes more with pictures than with words, share links, meet new friends. I´ve been always a bit of an introvert, so I guess one of the goals is to change that.

I´m liking your blog more and more! :)
