First Steps Towards The Move
by Amanda on July 12, 2009

So, as mentioned the Amanda is going to be a Canadian Visa is almost approved. Once we received that letter, my mind started ticking over, thinking about all the dozens of things we need to start organising.
How does one even contemplate moving their life across the planet? I don’t know how you did it, sweetie! The Canadian moved his life to Australia almost 4 years ago and now it’s my turn. I have the next 2 weeks off work and I am going to try and make good use of that time.
Our plan is to move to Canada in October sometime, which means I have about 3 months to get my act into gear.
The first step was buying some luggage in the mid year sales. I of course wanted to buy something gorgeous to have me jet setting in style, however this trip is about getting as much stuff in my bags as possible. So, I went with sturdy, large and good quality instead. I purchased the Antler Translite series and may even go back and get another.
Now I just need to figure out what to put in them! Making the decisions about what to take and what to leave behind is going to be the death of me. I’ll need a case just for my cameras!
Have you ever done a big move and had to decide what precious possessions to leave behind?

Oh, that sounds so tough! I may be doing a trans continental move within the next few years as well, and dread having to do the big heave-ho of my stuff. I hope you have a wonderful time in our big, friendly country!
Thanks Amanda Nicole.
Today is round 1 in sorting lol.
Where are you moving to?
Wow, Amanda….these are amazing! Do you ever give photography lessons? I’ll drive up to Vancouver to get them from you. :) Glad you were able to get in some creativity over your weekend.
P.S. I left you a flickr. message. xx
I moved from Hawaii to LA about a year ago and it was so completely stressful and emotional. I didn’t realize a person could accumulate so much STUFF, until I started sifting through everything. Moving everything across a big ocean was stressful! Good luck on your move and hopefully you can find some time for yourself in between all of it :)
i could tell you a billion things amanda! moving to vancouver this time round was the sixth time i’ve moved to another country (and i’m already starting to contemplate the next!)
mostly i stick with this :: only bring your most beloved clothes – because when you are somewhere new (and a little homesick), it’s the best thing to put you at ease (and before you know it, you’ll have gathered some new ones around you : )
i like to bring my bedding- at least a couple of sets, because they are so expensive to buy, and i’m quite attached to mine.
bring all the cameras that you think you could ever want because it’s far easier to ship clothes over than a camera you’ve left behind.
it’s also great when you have family members that are willing to give up their garage space for your ridiculously large furniture / record / book collection, even when you don’t know when you’ll ever be back.
Oh my goodness, 6 countries! Which ones, Claire?
That’s incredible.
See, I thought the same thing about the bedding but the Canadian is saying no to that one. I think he’s thinking it’s the perfect chance for him to be rid of my beautiful ‘Josephine Duck Egg Blue’ Laura Ashley doona haha
